With over a billion users, Instagram is a major player in the marketing strategy of most businesses. Whether used to build your personal brand, showcase your product, or sell directly through the app, Instagram is a powerful tool for any business.
Yesim Saydan, a social media strategist, explained to us what these changes could mean for you and your business. Saydan left a successful corporate career leading global projects for multinational brands to set up his social media consulting store to help entrepreneurs and executives achieve their business goals through social media.
If you haven’t taken advantage of all that Instagram has to offer to increase your business’s visibility, here are some of the latest updates and Saydan’s recommendations on how to use them.
1. Automate your direct messages on Instagram
Instagram allows a number of its partners, such as ManyChat, to help you create your own communication bot. You can use the bot not only to answer questions, but also to thank people for sharing your content, respond with keywords, and offer help.
This is particularly effective for expanding your email database. “Tell your followers to send you a specific keyword like ‘Instagram’, and your bot will guide them through a series of chat conversations you’ve set up ahead of time to warm up your prospects, nurture them, and then introduce your main magnet, “suggests Saydan.” The great thing here is that the bot only picks up those trigger words. You can continue chatting with your existing friends and customers in DMs, while your bot helps you with predefined queries for your prospects.
2. Instagram Live with audio controls
With the popularity of Clubhouse, Instagram has now added controls to mute your audio and even mute video during your live recordings, essentially giving your attendees an audio-only experience.
“I think video dramatically speeds up the trust we build in someone, so in my opinion as a business owner showing off on camera is very important,” says Saynad. “I know a lot of my customers will be happy with this feature as they are still getting ready to be in front of the camera and love this aspect of Clubhouse.”
3. Overview of Instagram reels
If you have a creator or business account on Instagram, you can view your account information which will let you know how many people have visited your profile, clicked on your website, started following you, etc. Reels, aka vertical videos, up to 15 or 30 seconds, has been the feature with the most reach on Instagram in recent months.
“It’s especially exciting for any content creator,” says Saynad. “Use this information to analyze the performance of your coils and optimize from there. Track and measure topics, format, music, lighting, time, etc. to see which ones work best. From there, you can really create optimal reels that resonate with your audience.
4. IGTV monetization
After Snapchat and Tiktok created their monetization programs to attract creators, Instagram decided to offer one as well.
“IGTV monetization allows anyone with 10,000 or more subscribers to advertise their content,” says Saynad. “If you have a good size of subscribers and are committed to creating content consistently, this is a great way to generate additional income.”
5. Instagram Reel Remix
Instagram posted the ability to play an existing reel alongside your own reel similar to TikTok’s Duet feature. As long as the remix feature is enabled on the other reel, you will be able to create reactionary or side-by-side commentary on an already created reel.
“This feature will save us time because we can reuse existing coils to create new ones!” Saynad notes. “This is great news for content creators who are struggling to deliver new and fresh content on a consistent basis. “
