The Berlinale 2021 Co-Production Market goes live

– With a selection of 35 projects, including new efforts by Jan Komasa, Fien Troch, Selma Vilhunen and Syllas Tzoumerkas, the 18th edition of the co-production platform goes digital

The 18e edition of the Berlinale Co-Production Market has invited 35 new feature film projects from 25 countries for its next edition. The teams that support them will thus have the opportunity to meet industry professionals at more than 1,000 meetings. An integral part of the European Film Market, the Berlinale Co-Production Market will take place on the same dates as the EFM, from March 1 to 5.

For the official market program, 19 projects, budgeted between 750,000 and 4.5 M €, were selected from the 301 submitted, most of them European productions. Two participating projects come from Germany: Sophie Bösch presents his first feature film, Deciduous teeth, while the Greek filmmaker based in Berlin Nancy Biniadaki (The surface of things) will come with its second project, Could soon. Two novice filmmakers represent France: Nora El Hourch with Pussy project and Sarah arnold with Wild encounters. Originally from neighboring Belgium, acclaimed writer-director Fien Troch returns with a new project four years after the Venice Prize Home [+see also:

, and beginner Domien Huyghe present the project Shard of the sea.

As for the rest of the selection, Poland Jan Komassa (corpus Christi [+see also:

) brings another new project titled The shine of the sun, Finnish filmmaker Selma vilhunen presents his fourth feature film, after the premiere in Toronto Young stupid heart [+see also:

, and Greek writer-director Syllas Tzoumerkas returns to Berlin after his last feature film, The miracle of the Sargasso Sea [+see also:

, created two years ago. Finally, European projects also include the debut feature films of the Norwegian Thea Hvistendahl and Galician director Alvaro Gago.

In the other sections of the market, the directors of the Berlinale will welcome the projects of directors who have already been present at the festival and whose new cinematographic works are now in the early stages of funding: here we find the latest projects of the Swedish filmmaker Måns Månsson, of which Real estate [+see also:

). In addition, the film project Kabul January through Shahrbanoo Sadat will first be shown at CineMart in Rotterdam and will be part of the special Rotterdam-Berlinale Express program.

The selection is completed by the ten projects presented at the Talent Project Market, which takes place in collaboration with Berlinale Talents, where emerging producers will have the chance to present their projects.
